Computer Replacement Program (CRP)

CEHD’s Computer Replacement Program ensures that all full-time faculty and staff in our college have a computer that is up-to-date and able to adequately run current software. CRP offers a choice of standard Dell Latitude and Apple MacBook laptop options. Desktop and high-performance models are also available upon request. Standard models are targeted for replacement every four years. Depending on a person’s role in the college, CRP covers all of the cost of these standard models or part of the cost of the high performance model.

Who is Eligible

CRP fully covers the cost of one standard Dell Latitude or Apple MacBook for all full-time instructional and non-instructional staff, except in situations listed below.

High-Performance Standards

AIT strives to select standards that meet the needs of most CEHD employees while conforming to university standards, policies, and management systems. We also select conforming, high-performance models for those rare cases when the baseline CRP model is not sufficient for your specific needs. Since these models are not stocked regularly, delivery times may be considerably longer than the baseline model. Local units will be responsible for covering the difference in cost between the baseline model and the high-performance model.

Monitors and Other Peripherals

Monitors, adapters, docks/port replicators and other computer peripherals are not covered by CRP and must be paid for by the local unit. Whenever possible, existing monitors and peripherals are repurposed to serve staff needs.

Computer Purchases Not Covered by CRP

The CRP provides faculty and staff with access to an up-to-date, easily supported computer adequate for that person’s every day, work-related computing needs. Academic and Information Technology staff regularly review and select the CRP standard computer options with an eye toward ease of use, ease of support, and durability over a lifetime of normal use.

  • AIT staff are happy to help you select and purchase non-CRP computers which are not one of the standard models, but those computers must be purchased with alternative funds at full price.
  • CRP does not cover staff working for research projects, contract, and/or externally-funded projects. Computer expenditures in these situations should be written into proposals and paid for by the research or contract funds.
  • CRP does not fund multiple computers per individual. If more than one computer is needed, you must find funds to cover the full price of the additional computers. Similarly, if you already have a computer purchased with other, non-CRP University funding (e.g., grants, contracts) but wish to have additional computers, those computers must be purchased with alternative funds at full price.
  • A CRP purchased computer is in trade for your old computer. If you wish to keep your old computer, you must find funds to cover the full price of the new computer.

AIT and individual units should work closely together to determine the needs of individuals and units. Whenever possible, computers and monitors should be recycled in ways that make the most sense and assure that everyone has an appropriate machine to get their work done.
