New Career Excellence Award

Purpose
To recognize a new CEHD professional who has demonstrated outstanding and innovative academic work and shows great promise in terms of future contributions to the college and the field.

Award 
Recipient will receive a $1,500 award and a certificate presented at the CEHD Spring Assembly and Recognition event in April. Up to one award may be presented each year to an eligible faculty or P&A nominee.

Eligibility
CEHD pre-tenure faculty, or full-time (75% or greater) P&A staff and contract faculty who have worked no more than five years in their current position, with at least two completed academic years in CEHD as of the due date for this year’s nominations may apply. An individual may not receive this award more than once; however, previous nominees who have not received the award may be re-nominated. All nominees must be an active employee in good standing at the time of the dossier due date. Nominees must continue as employees in good standing in order to receive the award at the date of the spring assembly in April.

Criteria
Successful nominees will have demonstrated:

  • Great promise and distinction in their academic work.
  • Outstanding and innovative academic work in one or more of the following areas: teaching, discovery, engagement, advising, or educational leadership. Teachers will have successfully used methods that appeal to diverse learning styles and build critical thinking skills in students. Faculty and staff involved in discovery will have significantly contributed to the knowledge and understanding of an important issue in their field. Faculty and staff involved in engagement will have developed a significant partnership in the community. Advisers will have shown exceptional support of students. Educational leaders will have demonstrated that they are up-and-coming leaders in their field or the college.


Nomination Documentation

Nomination materials are reviewed by individuals who may not be specialists in the nominee’s field. Successful nominations document how the experiences of the nominee meet the criteria of the award. Selection Process
Nominations will be reviewed by the CEHD Honors and Awards work group, which will make a recommendation to the dean, who will make the final decision regarding the recipient of this award.
