SUBMISSION TIMELINE

Minor revisions may be approved by a dean or the chair of the Curriculum Council. Please allow 2-3 days for a reply.

If a minor course revision is part of a program revision that needs Curriculum Council approval the minor course revision must be submitted to the Council with the program proposal.

Major revisions must be reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Council.
In order to allow time for CC members to fully consider each proposal, major course revisions must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which they will be reviewed.

GUIDELINES FOR COURSE REVISION PROPOSALS

All Major or Minor revisions will need a current syllabus entered into Coursedog (Curriculum Management system):

Any syllabus older than two years should be replaced with a current version when making Coursedog updates.

Minor revision:
Revisions of titles, descriptions, prerequisites or grading – a change that does not involve a shift in course content.

Submit the Course Revision Google form with current and proposed course information, rationale for the proposal, and department chair approval.

If a minor course revision is part of a program revision that needs Curriculum Council approval the minor course revision must be submitted to the Council with the program proposal.

If making exactly the same minor revision for a series of courses (e.g., changing grading base from x to y), send a memo (instead of the form) listing all the courses, specifying current info and proposed info, and giving the rationale for the change, and department chair approval.

Major revision:
A shift in course content (e.g., shift in focus of a major course component; addition, subtraction, change, or replacement of a major course component). Such a shift would reflect more than content updating and less than a change in the entire focus of a course as described below. Changes in course credits are always a major revision. Exceptions may be requests for changes in credits in directed study-type courses and other courses that do not have specific content outlines; such requests can usually be submitted as minor course changes.

For major course revisions, submit the Course Revision (Major & Minor) Google form with current and proposed course information, rationale for the proposal, syllabus clearly showing the changes and department chair approval.

Major revisions must include a copy of either the current and revised course syllabi or one syllabus clearly showing the changes by using different type styles or boxes for current and proposed changes.
